While there are no risks to human health, stink bugs are well known during the winter to seek shelters within houses, usually concealed in walls, attic or crawl spaces. Stink bugs reappear at the beginning of spring and become active indoors and outdoors. Such unwanted house guests are famous for their unpleasant smell when crushed. Please patch a hole indoors or windows and vacuum any bugs found inside the house to keep this destructive disease out of your home.

Asian Long-horned Ticks

The Asian long-horned tick was first discovered in New Jersey in 2017 and came from Asia to the USA, where deadly diseases are known to spread to both animals and humans. These ticks can rapidly multiply as female ticks reproduce in the United States without a male, becoming an established invasive species. Asia long-horned ticks were also reported outside the United States to bear conditions like Lyme, Ehrlichiosis, Japanese spotted fever, Powassan virus, and the Khasan virus. It has a strong reputation for transmitting SFTS, a deadly virus in 15 percent of its patients (severe fever with Thrombocytope syndrome).

Preventing Pests:

Spotted lanternflies in New Jersey, Delaware, Virginia, New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts were first recorded in Pennsylvania in 2014. The grape, fruit trees and logging industries are significantly threatened by such pesticides because they feed on the sap in many trees and plants. Egg masses are known to lie on trees, rocks and exterior furnishings. Scrape them off and put in a double bag until you dispose of them in the garbage when you have Egg masses around the house. To confirm a sighting and the migration of this invasive species, you should also call your local agriculture department.

Red Imported Fire Ants (RIFA)

They are now found in the south and west of the United States and will attack people who are disturbing or menacing their nests. They are frequently introduced through potted plants, shrubs or trees into new areas. Such small invasive insects are named after their painful pulsations that develop into larger, white pustules. Those who are allergic to insect stings will respond harder.
